A new year always is a great time for a new beginning. Or in my case, a great time to learn a new skill. This past New Year’s Eve was probably one of my most memorable ones yet. I spent the evening with my sister and mom. We stayed in, watched movies, and in my case, learned a new skill (read: acquired a new addiction).
This was my first project. Granted, it doesn’t fit, but that’s okay! I made something! I could go back and take out a couple rows. It wasn’t really based on a particular pattern, as much as it was my mom teaching me a crochet stitch, and going from there. Though, I did use this tutorial for the flower.
Annnnd then my addictive personality took over. I wanted to crochet anything and everything. I pinned 200+ awesome crocheted things. I spent hours sifting through patterns on Ravelry. And in the past 30 days I have crocheted:
- a headband
- a set of baby booties for one of my dearest friend’s baby girl
- multiple washable makeup remover pads (there’ll be a blog post coming on those!)
- vintage victorian coasters
- a pair of boot cuffs
- And this guy (courtesy of this awesome pattern).
I can honestly say this guy is my most favourite. There’s something so rewarding about crocheting something for my little nephew. This bear is already filled with more love than anything a store can provide.
I can imagine Baby A as a toddler running around with this guy in tow.
I can imagine having to sew this little guy back together multiple times.
I can imagine the day he loses one of his eyes.
And honestly, it makes my heart scream with joy. Some of my fondest memories as a kid involved a teddy bear my mom knitted me. Some of the saddest include one of us being sick and wanting nothing other than the teddy bear mom knitted us. It’s amazing how things come full circle.
Look at his cute little butt!!
It’s been an amazing 30 days of crocheting things. I’ve even taught my sister how to crochet! I’m so excited for all the other projects I’ve already picked out. I’ve already started a blanket for another little one on the way!
